Pitt was recertified as a HeartSafe Campus

The National Collegiate Emergency Medical Services Foundation has again recognized the University of Pittsburgh as a HeartSafe Campus. Pitt’s Student Emergency Medical Services organization successfully applied for and recertified the Pittsburgh campus as HeartSafe.

HeartSafe campuses are recognized for providing rapid response by CPR- and AED-trained first responders, offering AED and CPR training to their local communities, engaging in preventative cardiovascular health care activities and more.

This recertification will last four years, during which time the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management, along with campus partners like SEMS, will continue to engage in activities and training opportunities that improve cardiac arrest care in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood. Find AED locations across campus.

On March 20, the Department of Environmental Health and Safety will offer AED training in 45-minute increments, with the first class starting at 9:00 a.m. and the last class beginning at 3:00 p.m., on the 4th floor of the Public Safety Building. If you are interested in learning this lifesaving skill, make sure to register for the training. For questions, KMC221 [at] pitt.edu (email Kevin Caruso).
