Six University of Pittsburgh health sciences graduate programs ranked in the top 10 nationally, among other strong showings by University programs in the U.S. News and World Report’s 2025 Best Graduate Schools rankings, released April 8.

Pitt’s top-10 rankings in the health sciences specialties included No. 2 in nurse anesthesia, No. 3 in occupational therapy, No. 5 in speech-language pathology, No. 5 in audiology, No. 5 in the nurse practitioner program in psychiatric mental health and No. 9 in physical therapy. Other top Pitt programs included health care management (No. 12), public health (No. 16) and physician assistant (No. 26, a big jump from its prior ranking at No. 50). The overall Doctor of Nursing program achieved a No. 12 ranking.

The U.S. News and World Report compiles rankings through surveys and gathering data on the qualities of programs at different schools. The organization updates rankings annually, although not all categories are updated each year.

And in schoolwide medical school rankings, which are now organized by tier rather than being ranked individually, Pitt earned a Tier 1 ranking for research, putting it in the top 16 schools nationally.

The University’s engineering programs also earned strong placements, with an overall ranking at No. 43 and jumps in rankings for civil engineering (No. 58) and materials engineering (No. 50). The highest engineering rankings were in biomedical engineering at No. 28 and industrial engineering at No. 24.

Pitt’s part-time MBA program was ranked No. 36, with overall business programs increasing to No. 46. The School of Public and International Affairs was ranked No. 34, and the School of Education and School of Law ranked No. 35 and 77, respectively, with educational psychology at No. 23, health care law at No. 34 and tax law at No. 35.
