19 people were honored at Pitt’s Postdoctoral Research Symposium

On April 14, the University of Pittsburgh held its 18th annual Postdoctoral Research Symposium, hosted by the Office of Academic Career Development for the schools of the health sciences.

Postdocs presented 115 posters at the event, and 11 of them took home $500 awards in recognition of the best poster presentations. The winners were:

  • Amandine Amalric, Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology, School of Medicine
  • Ligia Antezana, Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine
  • Bingbing Duan (A&S, ’24G), Department of Biological Sciences, Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences
  • Dzana Katana, Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, School of Medicine
  • Denglei Ma, Department of Neurology, School of Medicine
  • Kiran Mcloughlin, Department of Bioengineering, Swanson School of Engineering
  • Carolina Soares, Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine
  • Lindsay Taraban (A&S ’15G, ’22G), Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine
  • Bradley Wheeler (SCI ’03, SCI ’22G), Department of Pathology, School of Medicine
  • Jacob Whitman, Department of Health Policy and Management, School of Public Health
  • Aaron Zynda, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, School of Medicine

Five researchers also received fan favorite awards, voted on by their peers:

  • Casey Becker, Department of Neurosurgery, School of Medicine
  • Baixi Chen, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Swanson School of Engineering
  • Domenic J. Filingeri, Department of Medicine, School of Medicine
  • Carolina Soares, Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine
  • Blayne Stone, Department of Learning Sciences and Policy, School of Education

In addition, three faculty and staff took home awards recognizing their excellence in leadership, advocacy, and mentorship of postdoc researchers:

  • Rachael Rush, a postdoctoral associate in the School of Public Health and Center for Vaccine Research
  • Laura J. Miller, associate director of the Office of Academic Career Development for the schools of the health sciences
  • Michael S. Gold, professor of neurobiology in the School of Medicine
