Kamesha Spates, William S. Dietrich II Chair and associate professor in the Department of Africana Studies in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, was an invited speaker at the Association for Addiction Professionals.

Formerly the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (and still known as NAADAC), the organization is the professional hub for 100,000 addiction counselors, educators and other health care professionals in the United States, Canada and abroad.

As part of the NAADAC’s Feb. 6 Engagement in the Black Community Summit, Spates joined a panel of social work, medicine and psychology experts on addressing and understanding suicide in the Black community. More than 700 professionals attended.
