2 Pitt alumni have been elected to the National Academy of Education

The Cathedral of Learning

Jinfa Cai (EDUC ’94G) and Drew Gitomer (A&S ’82G, ‘84G), University of Pittsburgh and Learning Research and Development Center (LRDC) alumni, have been elected to the 2025 class of the National Academy of Education.

Jinfa Cai is the Kathleen and David Hollowell Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Delaware and a fellow of the American Educational Research Associate. His research interests focus on mathematics education, problem solving and problem posing, cognitive studies and curriculum evaluation.

Drew Gitomer is the inaugural Rose and Nicholas DeMarzo Chair in Education at the Rutgers Graduate School of Education. His research examines policy-related issues in teaching and teacher education. Gitomer was also named an LRDC Distinguished Alumnus in 2012.

The National Academy of Education advances high quality education research and its use in policy and practice. The Academy consists of U.S. members and international associates who are elected based on outstanding scholarship or leadership related to education. Nominations are submitted once a year and candidates are elected by the organization’s membership.
