Ad Hoc Committee on Fossil Fuels Seeks Input

Members of the University of Pittsburgh community are encouraged to express their views to the Ad Hoc Committee on Fossil Fuels of the Board of Trustees in two upcoming forums.

Input is being sought for the Committee Charge, which includes providing the full Board of Trustees with “options on whether, to what extent, and via what methods the University, in its Endowment, should consider divestment from fossil fuels in existing and/or future investments.”

Two open forums are being held via Zoom:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET. Register here.
  • Friday, Oct. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. ET. Register here.

Both virtual, public forums are open to all members of the University community on all five campuses and to the general public. Up to 500 people can join the Zoom session and 30 speaking slots are available per forum. Speakers are asked to sign up in advance and will be given three minutes each to address the committee.

If you are unable to attend a forum, but would like to make a public comment on the Committee’s Charge, please submit your written statement.

All public comments received by the Ad Hoc Committee online and via the forums will be publicly available in the committee’s final report. Irrelevant, inflammatory or otherwise inappropriate language will not be included. Public comment via the committee’s website will be open through Nov. 13, 2020.
